Summer Learning Journey, Acknowledging Ancestry.

Activity 2: Acknowledging Ancestry:)

All of us are members of a family. Some of us have large families and some of us have very small

families. When I have the opportunity to talk about my family and my ancestry I sometimes choose to
use a pepeha. It is a very special way of identifying who I am and where I come from.
There are many different versions of pepeha but most provide people with information about who
you are and where you come from (i.e. your whakapapa).

Summer Learning Journey, The Rules of Engagement.

Activity 2: The Rules of Engagement!

Women were expected to have babies and remain in the home caring for their children. Few, if any, left home in search of work. Men, on the other hand, were expected to work outside of the home. These days, we don’t have the same strict expectations about work. Girls and boys can choose their own path in life. In fact, I was lucky enough to go to university and to follow my dream of becoming a teacher!

When I grow up I would like to become a teacher. The reason why I want to become a teacher is because I like to help little kids & I want to teach my future students to learn how to learn, create & share. I also want to become a teacher so I get use to saying everyone's names & I really want to communicate with elder & younger students / teachers. I was inspired by my cool teachers Mrs Buchanan & Miss West. I really want to become a teacher one day!

SLJ Bonus Activity: Waka Ama

Todays SLJ task everyone who has signed up for the SLJ competition & is doing the Waka Ama bonus activity would have been able to watch a Waka Ama video clip. After we have watched the video we would have to write a short story is I would want to do Waka Ama. Image result for waka ama

I would like to do Waka Ama because It was an old sport my Mum use to do back when she was my age. I would also like to be a part of Waka Ama because I would like to give myself a really tough challenge such as this cool water sport. I would love to do Waka Ama as it'll help me improve my learning & help me with so many cool water safety things. After I was watching the Waka Ama video I saw how much training everybody does to complete the competition. Waka Ama sounds like a really cool sport & I would like to represent my family with such awesomeness. I think you should try Waka Ama out as well.
